Becoming a farmer!
Being a city girl isn't such a bad thing when I'm home in the city. Its when I get out to the farm that my husbands family loves to pick on me for being a city girl. :) I'm only kidding, they lovingly show me how to do things on the farm and laugh the entire time while I'm messing up. Oh well. About two months ago Daryl and I went to visit his family on their farm in Vermillion, Kansas. I've always loved going to their farm from the first time I went there. You get to do a lot of things that you can't do in the city. Like blowing up old ovens, but thats a whole other blog.
Anywyas, from the above picture you can see that we are standing on a Combine. (Not a tractor for all you city folk. I used to call everything a tractor, again another blog.) Anyways, Daryl's dad needed to get some harvesting done, so of course we offered to help. Well Daryl offered to help, I just tagged along, because thats what I like to do. I'm sure they think I'm funny when I find it exciting to do things that they do everyday. So when Daryl decided to go out and harvest some wheat, I HAD to tag along. Heaven help us!
I sat next to Daryl as he went back and forth through the field just fascinated by the workings of the combine. Wierd I know, but I had question after questiong for Daryl and I'm sure by the end he was completely and utterly annoyed by me. But hey, I can't help it. When I'm doing something new, I have to know EVERYTHING!! Then he does the craziest thing. He turns to me and says, "Honey, would you like to drive?"
My first thought was, ARE YOU CRAZY!!! Have you seen me drive my car??? (kidding, I'm an okay driver most of the time.) Then my second thought was, this is how his parents make their living, if I ruin this I'm in tonz of trouble. So of course I said yes, how could I not? He showed me what I needed to do, we quckly switched spots and went on our merry way.
Now everyone has seen how good farmers are at making beautiful rows while harvesting in their fields. NOT ME! Oh no, I had zigzags, I didn't know the meaning of straight. All the while I'm thinking, THIS IS AWESOME!! I' M FARMIN'!!!! I was able to do a few rows, then I turned it over to Daryl again. Of course he had to go back and fix my mess ups, but it was a blast. We even scared a turkey out of the field and I thought that was pretty cool. We later found out from his parents, that the turkey happened to be sitting on a nest of eggs and we didn't break any of them. Well, we know I wasn't driving when we went over the eggs. :)
Anyways, like I said, I love going to the farm and experiencing all these fun things for me. I think I talked about combining for a few hours and I'm sure the family was rolling thier eyes by the end. But it was great. I even got to drive a tractor, yes a tractor not a combine, later on in the day. I almost put that one in a pond, but again thats another story. :) (remember I'm a city girl, I don't know what I'm doing on a farm.)
So there is my fun farming story for today. I have plenty more where that came from. If I find more pictures, I'll add them on here. I'll also post a picture of a sunset I took on the farm while were there. Right before we lit off fireworks that shook the entire county!!! YEE HAW!!!!
See ya on the next blog!!!!!

Entering the blogging world!
So I've decided to jump on the blogging train with the rest of you crazy bloggers. It just gives me something else to do in my so dull and unexciting life. :) Of course I say that now, but soon I'll be really busy. On the 25th I will be starting my fall semester. Yes I'm still in school and I'm praying and hoping that I'll be graduating in the spring. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm finally studying a field that is holding my attention and is very interesting, GO SOCIOLOGY!!! No I'm not going to be a social worker, I'm not quite sure what I plan on doing with this degree, but I defiently don't want to become a social worker. Not that I don't think they do a good job, its just not for me. I'm also minoring in Photography and that is truly where my passion lies. I've found that I absolutely LOVE my photography classes and look forward to them all the time. Its also a great place to get my creativity out and thats always fun. I'm currently taking pics to put on a website so that I can try and make money at photography. I realize how hard it will be to get into that field of work, but I'm actually fairly good. If I do say so myself. :) So if anyone is interested in me taking pictures for them, let me know and I'll be very willing to do that. The only catch is that the pics I take will be on my website, but you get copies for free. YEAH!
The only other thing happening in my life right now is my health. For those that know me know that I've had seizures in my sleep before. They have seemed to come back a year after I decided to stop taking my medication, just to see if I needed it. The neuroligist I see doesn't really know what is wrong and for all I know there could be no reason for it. But we're still running tests. I'm going in for a ecocardiogram(however thats spelled) on monday after my classes. I'm not sure why they want to look at my heart, other than maybe seeing what my blood flow is like to my brain. Who knows. I try not to worry too much about it, because at this point there is really nothing I can do. So I'll keep everyone posted as to anything new I learn.
Everything else is going well in our life. Daryl is still working hard for Tesoro Oil Refinery in Salt Lake City and my cat Kiki is still driving me crazy. Every time I try to pawn her off, nobody wants her. :) Oh well, for some crazy reason I love that pain in the butt.
If I didn't say it before, welcome to my blog and all the exciting news that comes with it. Yeah!!! I am a sheep now. I have fallen in line with all the other bloggers. YEAH!!!! Keep smiling and see ya in my next blog!!!!!
