Hey all!
Its been one year since last you heard from me. That should tell you how exciting my life is. :) It also tells you that I'm lazy, so now you know two things about me. :)
Okay so I guess I should try and back track tell you a little bit of what has happened the past year. We spent a lot of time with Daryl's family this past year, which was great. We were able to go back to Kansas in July of last year and take our friend Yusef with us, something Daryl has been wanting to do for a very long time now. It ended up being quite an adventure and we had such an interesting way of welcoming Yusef to the farm. :)
See when we first got there, after saying hello to the whole family, Daryl decided he wanted to take Yusef on a tour of the farm. Of course I had to go along, cuz I love tours and I've always wanted to be a tour guide. :) (Side track there, I'll tell you about wanting to be a tour guide another time.) So anyways, Daryl and I hopped on one of the four wheelers and Yusef hopped on the other which happens to belong to Janice, Daryl's mom. She gave Yusef the same speech she gives everyone, don't you dare wreck my four wheeler speech. :) (I bet you can guess where this is going.)
Anyways after the speech we headed off for our little tour. Everything went really smoothly until the end of the tour when we were heading down a road, that goes through fields, to where Daryl's families' pond is. We wanted to show Yusef where we would most likely be hanging out for the majority of the trip. So Daryl and I are leading the way, passing corn taller than us at a fast pace. Then all of sudden, a truck comes from behind the corn and directly in our path. Thankfully the truck, which was carrying Daryl's sister Kate, her hubby Mark, and their daughter Isabel, went right and we went right. Which means avoiding collison. But this is where it gets funny. I heard from behind these very memorable words...."Oh S***! Oh S***! Oh S***!" and looked over to see Yusef had gone farther right and I think forgot where the brake was. Luckily there was an old post that he ran into and it was like watching a cartoon. He hit the post, the post kind of cracked and Yusef, along with the four wheeler fell over. Now at the time, it wasn't funny because we are thinking that oh great we just killed Yusef and we haven't even had him on the farm for 24 hours. Thankfully he was fine, other than a twisted ankle. Of course then the don't wreck my four wheeler speech came back in his head and he was freaking out. He thought Janice was going to kill him. But thankfully, the four wheeler suffered no damage and everyone still gets a good laugh out of it.
The other good yet tragic thing that happened was we were able to spend the day with Daryl's good friend Jason. I say tragic because five days after we saw him and three days after returning home, Jason was killed in a car accident. My heart broke for Daryl, but I was thankful that we had made it out there to see him the weekend before. The trip had kind of been a spur of the moment trip and I think it was a blessing given to Daryl to see his friend one last time.
Sorry to get so sad there, this post is like a roller coaster. One moment I have you laughing and screaming, then I bring you down with all this sadness. But it was part of what touched our lives in the past year and I wanted to share it.
Moving on, the another great thing that happened last year was I finally graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology! CRAZY!!! It was an exciting and scary time for me, realizing that something I thought I would never achieved actually happened and now I have to be a grown up! CRAPPY!
Before job hunting commenced, Daryl and I took our Christmas trip out to Kansas to see the family and spent almost three weeks there. Daryl wanted to take me on a trip for graduating and I told him that the trip I wanted to take was to Kansas to visit with his family. It was my way of giving back to him for pushing me to complete school and for paying for most of it. :) But I wanted us to be able to have some real quality time with his family. Vacations are fun, but when you are rushing to see everybody in those seven days you are there, it makes you feel like you missed out on the quality time. AND believe me, when a blizzard comes and keeps eight adults and four kids trapped on the farm for three days! That is QUALITY TIME!!!! :) Actually it turned out to be a lot of fun and I got some really great pictures of my nieces and nephews. In fact, we had a new niece welcomed to the family on October 25, 2009, our niece Naomi. That made it so that we had two nephews and two nieces and no kids ourselves. It means we help with the happy kids and give the grumpy ones to their parents. :)
Anyways, getting up to speed I spent about four and a half months looking for a job before I finally found a part time job as a USU faciliator. Its actually a fun job and I enjoy it. But part time isn't exactly what I was looking for and I'm still keeping my eyes open for something better out there. Job hunting sucks! (Just wanted to throw that in there.)
I guess that kind of sums up everything happening, which obviuosly isn't a whole lot. OH the other thing is Daryl gets to go Elk hunting in November. He is super excited and I'm super happy for him. Its something he has desperately wanted to do and he lucked out getting his name drew this year for a very popular area. So by the end of the year I'm going to be eating Elk meat and I have a feeling there will be a Elk head in my living room. Great. :P Oh well, it makes him happy.
Well thats the end of my rambling for now. I'm going to try and do better, but who knows it may be a whole year before you hear from me again. Lucky you. :) Enjoy and I'll see you in another post.
TOODLES!!!!
